What is Numerology?

Numbers aren't just tools for measuring the world, they are the world.

Numerology is the study of numbers and their influence on human life. The belief that the numbers connected to you, drawn from your birth date, your name, the patterns that keep appearing around you aren't random. They reflect something real about who you are, what drives you, and where you're headed.

Every number means something. Not in a mathematical sense, though that too, but in a deeper, older sense. The kind that made ancient scholars pause over the date of a birth, or the sum of a name, and ask: what does this tell us?

Every Culture. The Same Conviction.

Most people associate numerology with modern spirituality, but its roots span almost every major civilisation and they kept arriving at the same conclusion independently.

In Babylon, numbers were used to interpret celestial events and map human fate. In Egypt, the appeared repeatedly across religions texts, temple design, and ritual practice as deliberate expressions of cosmic order. The Hebrew practice of Gematria assigned numerical values to every letter of the alphabet, uncovering layered meaning within sacred scripture. Then there's Pythagoras, who taught that numbers weren't just tools for measuring the world, they were the world.

The Western tradition is far from the only one. In China, numerology is still deeply embedded in everyday life. 8 is highly auspicious because it sounds like the word for prosperity, while 4 is widely avoided because it echoes the word for death. In India, numerology developed alongside Vedic astrology, each number associated with a planetary influence, giving the system a distinct character from its Western counterpart.

These traditions don't agree on everything. But the underlying conviction is shared: numbers are not neutral. Too consistent across too many centuries to be a coincidence.

Your Numbers, Your Map

Numerology works by reducing the significant numbers in your life down to a single core digit, or in some cases, a Master Number. Each carries its own energy, themes, and qualities.

The most important is your Life Path Number, calculated from your full date of birth. It's the throughline of your story, the talents you came in with, the lessons you're here to learn, the kind of life that will feel most meaningful to you. Want to know yours? We've put together a quick TikTok that walks you through how to calculate it.

Your Expression Number speaks to your natural abilities and what you're wired to contribute. Your Soul Urge Number reflects the motivations you carry that you might not always say out loud. Your Personality Number is the version of yourself other people tend to meet first.

None of these tell you what will happen. They describe the terrain you're working with.

What your Life Path Number means

1 - Natural leaders who are independent and driven, at their best when forging their own path.

2 - Deeply intuitive and empathetic peacemakers who thrive in partnership and have quiet strength others often underestimate.

3 -  Creative, expressive and magnetic. 3s feel most alive when they have an outlet for their ideas.

4 - The builders. Reliable and deeply committed, 4s create foundations hat everything else can stand on.

5 - Freedom seekers who crave variety and experience. Adaptable and curious, conventional paths tend to feel too small for them.

6 - Nurturing and responsible, 6s are natural carers for whom home, family, and community mean everything.

7 - The seekers. Drawn to depth and wisdom, 7s need time alone to process and make sense of the world.

8 - Ambitious and capable. 8s have a natural understanding of power and how to build something meaningful.

9 - The humanitarians. 9s carry deep compassion and a desire to contribute something that outlasts them.

Master Numbers

Most numbers are reduced to a single digit. Master Numbers are the exception. 11, 22, and 33 carry a heightened energy considered too significant to reduce further, and tend to come with a stronger sense of purpose alongside a greater tension between potential and pressure.

11 is the intuitive, here to inspire and illuminate. 22 is the master builder, with the vision to create something that genuinely lasts. 33, the rarest, is the master teacher, driven by a deep desire to uplift others.

Not every numerologist includes 33, and some extend the list further. Like many aspects of the practice, it varies by tradition and practitioner.
